EAST Lothian sprinter Maria Lyle is among a star-studded Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad for the IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea.

The county star, who earlier this year broke two world records, is joined in the squad by some stellar names from disability sport, with six-time Paralympic champion David Weir among those competing in Swansea.

Lyle, who is 14 and from Dunbar, has cerebral palsy, and earlier this year ran 31.01 seconds to win the T35 200m, breaking the world record.

She then went on to break the record for the 100m in the same category, running 14.83 seconds at the Loughborough International in May.

Selection for the Great Britain team is reward for her impressive form – she was unable to take part at last year’s European Championship in Lyon on account of her age.

However, this year she has made the squad, and will run in the T35 100m and 200m.

Ten current Paralympic and world champions have been named in the 56-strong squad that will compete in south Wales between August 18 and 23.
