Solhein sorrow for Cat
CATRIONA Matthew"s European team-mates failed to follow her lead in the Solheim Cup at the weekend as the North Berwick golfer continued her stunning form in the defeat to the USA.
The Americans retained the ladies equivalent of the Ryder Cup with a 16-12 victory at Halmstad in Sweden, despite Europe going into the final day"s singles events with a one-point lead and requiring six pints from the 12 for victory.
Matthew, 38, was chosen first out to head up the singles effort and she racked up the first point on the board with a tremendous 3 and 2 victory over Laura Diaz.
But her win failed to inspire Europe and the USA won the singles by 8-and-a-half to 3-and-a-half to stretch their dominance of the tournament to seven wins to Europe" three.
It was Matthew"s fourth appearance in Europe"s Solheim Cup team.
