TRANENT racing ace Kieran Gordon was in action Oulton Park last month.

He travelled south of the Border to take part in rounds 3,4 and 5 of the Volkswagen Racing Cup.

The 20-year-old, a former kart racer, qualified in fifth for the opening race, and he was delighted with the progress he is making having made the switch to car racing recently.

He said: "I was very pleased with my qualification, especially with it only being my second ever car race."

Kieran, a former Ross High School pupil, was back on the track 48 hours later and competed in three races at the Cheshire venue.

He started well, and was in fourth place until attempting a risky pass, and he was sent off-course, hitting the tyre wall, with what the 20-year-old called "a big impact."

His team worked hard to ensure he was back out for race two, where he started in 16th place.

Gordon put in a stellar drive to finish in 10th place and register his first championship points of the meet, before he returned to the grid in sixth place for the day's final race.

And the Tranent ace moved his way to fourth, before a pass allowed him to move to third, where he remained until the chequered flag.

It was Kieran's first-ever podium finish in car racing, and he was delighted with the event.

He told Courier Sport: ""t was a very positive weekend for myself and the team as we have shown we have the pace and are capable of running at the front of the vastly competitive and experienced grid.

"I would like to thank all my sponsors, and all my family and friends for their continued support."
