Tranent’s Kieran Gordon only entered the Easykart UK Championship for the first time this year but he’s proved himself a fast learner.

The 14-year-old has qualified to represent the UK in the Easykart World Finals next week.

Gordon’s storming displays in the eight-round championship meant he finished in the top six in his rookie season and earned the right to travel to Italy to compete against the world’s best young Easykart riders at Castelletto di Branduzzo, near Milan, starting on Wednesday.

Despite the difficulties of having to travel far from his county home, as all the championship rounds were in England or south Wales, Gordon marked himself out as a driver to watch with his mature displays and is now relishing his opportunity to test himself against the world’s best.

“I’m really excited and can’t believe I have made it to the World Finals in my first year at the championship,” a delighted Gordon told Courier Sport.

“At the beginning of the year reaching Italy was a dream for us and now my dream has came true.” Speedster Gordon competed over the eight rounds in a field of 32 young drivers, culminating in the final round at Forest Edge in Hampshire last month, and he clinched sixth place overall in the championship to book himself a trip to Italy.

Dad Graeme told Courier Sport of his delight at his son’s recent success, saying: “We’re both over the moon. Obviously for him to get there in his first year is brilliant.

“He’s been doing karting for a few years now but this is his first year in the championship.” Gordon is very grateful to his family and his sponsors for their support and help throughout his successful debut season, as well as to his school Ross High, who have allowed him time off to compete in the championships and will again allow him a fortnight’s absence to compete in Italy.
