Haddington slumped to another defeat at the weekend, with former head coach Rory Couper’s Ardrossan side completing a league double over the Reds.

Head coach Bryan Craig stuck largely with the side that had lost to Cartha Queen’s Park the previous week, with the only change to the starting side seeing Ewan Chalmers promoted from the bench to replace Rob McLuckie on the wing.

Craig also introduced Connor Munro and Graeme Dykes to the replacements bench, the pair having performed admirably for the 2nd XV in their win over league leaders Peebles the previous week.

Again without the services of stand-off Alex Ferguson, who has missed the last three games through injury, the Reds went with veteran Scott Brownlee in the number 10 jersey, but his best efforts were unable to ignite the Reds’ back line.

The home side did, though, start the brighter, and took an early lead as flying winger Kyle Adams backed up his try in the reverse fixture with a second in as many games against the West Coast side.

The conversion was off-target from James Ferguson, again standing in for Garry Cockburn as captain and taking the kicking duties in the absence of his older brother.

The Reds head coach was much happier with the first-half performance, with the Reds battling hard as they looked to register only their second win of the season.

But on the stroke of half-time they leaked two soft tries and found themselves behind at the break, although Ferguson did add a penalty for the hosts.

And Craig was left to rue those two tries as the visitors came out firing in the second half, and claimed the try bonus point with another pair of quick-fire tries.

It was an encouraging opening 40 minutes for the county club, but they remain at the foot of the table and face a tricky challenge as they go on the road on Saturday, with Falkirk their destination.

Craig will now have to lift his charges once more as they look for a first away win of the season, but it will not be easy, with Falkirk sitting fourth in the table.
