Hawick Harlequins 10 v 20 North Berwick

HAVING lost home and away to Quins last season, and following the loss last week to Dunbar, the travelling support knew that only a top performance would bring the points home from Winton Park.

The early exchanges had the Quins pinned back, and with North Berwick's set piece play looking good, there was plenty of ball for the backs.

It took 17 minutes for Matt Dudgeon to make a break in the centre and with full-back Danny Waldman joining the line, an overlap was available for Lauder.

It still took a bit of work, but he crossed close to the right touch line. Grant Craig, who has kicked well all season, added the conversion.

Quins came back strongly and scored two tries down their left wing, but with neither being converted, they held a narrow 10-7 lead at half -time.

It was clear from the start of the second half that the North Berwick players were determined to win in Hawick, something that had not happened for many years and the forwards started to dominate proceedings.

Fifteen minutes into the half, Ben Lowe made a break and Waldman scored an excellent try, this time wide on the right hand side. Craig converted for the visitors to take the lead again. He was to add two penalties, one from over 40 metres, to seal the victory.

North Berwick's 2nd XV won away at Grangemouth 21-19.
