COUNTY golf starlet Gabrielle MacDonald missed out on a second Scottish Women's Amateur Championship title at the weekend.

MacDonald, of Craigielaw Golf Club, had performed superbly to reach the final on Saturday, but she was unable to overcome Ailsa Summers of Carnoustie Ladies.

Summers took the initiative early in the final, as she won the second and third to find herself two-up at the turn.

The county ace, who lifted the trophy in 2014, fought hard, though, and won the 11th and 12th to bring the final back to all-square.

It remained that way until the 16th, when Summers hit a superb approach shot close, and MacDonald was unable to replicate the feat, and lost the hole.

Despite two good shots at the par-five 17th, the Craigielaw star found herself in the green-side bunker.

That allowed Summers to putt for the title, and she duly obliged to take the title.

MacDonald, who was bidding to join county legend Catriona Matthew among the multiple time winners, tweeted a picture of the finalists, and congratulated her opponent.

She wrote: "Great to reach the final of the Scottish Am, well done to Ailsa on the win #champ."

Summers succeeded North Berwick's Clara Young as champion – Young was eliminated in the second round by Tara MacTaggart.

The other county representative was Gullane Golf Club's Joanne Free, who lost to Hannah McCook in the quarter-finals.
