North Berwick teenager Calum Hill will rub shoulders with the world’s best golfers this week, after he won a place at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Gullane.
Hill won his place among the field for the Scottish Open through the inaugural qualifying event, held in North Berwick at the weekend.
Craig Sutherland claimed victory in the first-ever Scottish Open qualifier, and the quintet who made it through to the Gullane showpiece was completed by Gareth Wright, Greig Hutcheon, Graham Fox and 19-year-old Hill.
The East Lothian teenager, who is on a scholarship at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, claimed the final spot after rounds of 64 and 68, finishing just a shot ahead of his rivals.
And locals turned out to support Hill over the weekend, as the teenager, who started playing on the children’s course in North Berwick before becoming a member at Tantallon aged 10, celebrated claiming his place in the Scottish Open.
Gullane professional Alasdair Good and North Berwick pro Martyn Huish both took part, as did Elliot Saltman, but they were all well off the pace.
