There were celebrations for Gullane Golf Club members at the weekend, as they were crowned champions of the East Lothian Winter Golf League for the second successive season.

The club, who started the season as favourites for the coveted title, having clinched the league and cup double in an undefeated season last year, lived up to their expectations and took home the title once more.

It was a landmark achievement for Gullane, as not only had they clinched back-to-back wins, but they were victorious in the competition’s 50th anniversary year.

They sealed victory with a 3 1/2 - 1 1/2 win at Dunbar on Sunday.

And Murray Saunders, a member at Gullane, took to social media to express his delight at their triumph.

He tweeted: “@GullaneGolfClub East Lothian Winter League champions for the second year in a row. Well done team!” They have also booked their place in the last four of the cup once more this year, coming through their quarter-final by 4 1/2 to 1/2, also over Dunbar.

Meanwhile, Tantallon Golf Club were the winners of the Second Division title, after a comfortable win over Thorntree at the weekend.

They knew victory would ensure they claimed the title, and won promotion to the First Division, and they sealed the deal with an emphatic 5-0 win.

East Lothian Winter Golf League also plan to mark their 50th anniversary with an event at Haddington Golf Club next month.

A tournament is set to take place at the club on March 14, with all member clubs being invited to take part.
