A county golf course has been named as the best in the United Kingdom and Ireland by magazine Golf Monthly.

Muirfield, which hosted The Open Championship last year, has been named the best golf course in the United Kingdom and Ireland by the prestigious magazine, while also coming second in the National Club Golfer’s top 100 links.

Meanwhile, there were a whopping eight county courses in the National Club Golfer list, with North Berwick at number 13, The Renaissance Club at number 47, Gullane no.1 at number 50, and Dunbar, Luffness New, Gullane No.2 and Archerfield all featuring.

The Golf Monthly magazine list placed St. Andrews in third, while Carnoustie was in sixth and Royal Liverpool, this year’s host of The Open, finished outside the top 10, in 12th place.
