Musselburgh Athletic have parted company with manager David McGlynn, following a week of speculation over his future with the Olive Bank club.

McGlynn, one of the longest-serving managers in the country, was closing in on a decade in charge of the side, but has taken over at Superleague side Bonnyrigg Rose after they parted company with Max Christie. McGlynn (pictured) was not present for the club’s 6-1 East of Scotland Cup victory over Falkirk Juniors last weekend as speculation about his future mounted, with goalkeeping coach Walter Martynuik taking charge of the team.

Now, former Burgh midfielder Calvin Shand has joined as the club’s temporary head coach, and will work alongside Martynuik and Alan Todd, with a permanent appointment expected soon to confirm McGlynn’s successor.

McGlynn, who led Burgh to the Scottish Junior Cup final in 2011, would have celebrated his 10-year anniversary at Olive Bank next month and his departure completes a flurry of managerial changes at East Lothian’s junior sides that means tTranent Juniors manager Hamish Colgan is now the county’s longest-serving manager, having been at Foresters Park for just over a year.

McGlynn’s departure is the third managerial change this summer, with Geoff Jones and Johnny Harvey taking over at Dunbar and Haddington respectively in the close season.
