TEENAGE footballing sensation Matthew Knox enjoyed a “great feeling” as he clinched the SPFL League One title with Livingston.

Knox, from Prestonpans, was in the squad as the West Lothian club secured the League One title with victory over Alloa Athletic last Saturday.

A delighted Knox, who was an unused substitute as Livi wrapped up the league title, told Courier Sport: “It was a great feeling to win the league, especially being so young.”

The 17-year-old was then given his chance from the start, as he played just over an hour in the 1-0 win at Stenhousemuir at the weekend.

Title success means that Livi will return to the second tier of Scottish football after just a season away.

Midfielder Knox’s dad, also Matthew, said that he was “very proud” of his son.

He added: “He has done a lot in such a short time.”

There were congratulations, too, from his former school, Preston Lodge High School.

Graeme Bennion, Active Schools co-ordinator at Preston Lodge, told Courier Sport: “It is great to see Matthew doing so well in his first year as a professional.

“To be part of a squad who have gained promotion as league champions is a great achievement for someone who has just turned 17.

“I am really proud to see the progress he has made over the last year and delighted to see him celebrate with his team mates at Livingston.

“Congratulations to Matthew and all the Livingston players and staff – and best of luck for the Championship next season.”

The highly-rated teenager holds the record of being Livi’s youngest-ever player, after making his debut on Boxing Day 2016, just four days after his 16th birthday, and he has had three trials at Manchester United.

He was also the subject of interest from Rangers and Nottingham Forest had a bit turned down for the attacker, while Courier Sport also understands that Knox rejected the chance of a move to a London club earlier this season.
