LONGNIDDRY Primary School pupils were celebrating a hat-trick of titles following a thrilling final.

The Longniddry youngsters, winners of the John Home Robertson Cup in May, took on Stoneyhill Primary, who had won the Grandison Cup in April, to determine the county's top side.

Te play-off to crown the overall best team was always going to provide a cracking game of football.

The two sides had already met this season – in the JHR Cup – where the game ended 1-1 despite Stoneyhill having a number of chances to win the game.

Playing at the Musselburgh school, the hosts took the lead early on as Sam Kilboy fired home, and they soon doubled their advantage when Ewan Campbell broke free and smashed the ball home.

The visitors responded, though, and Owen Wardell's goal reduced the deficit, but the one-goal margin did not last long as Shaun Brady scored, and they added a fourth through Kilboy.

Longniddry turned round with a mountain to climb, but began their fightback with three quick-fire goals, with two more from Wardell and Lewis-Alan Brown.

Shortly after the fourth, a long ball through found striker Lachlan Graham, his instance control and right-foot smash nearly tore the net off the goals and sent the visitors into euphoria.

With the time running out, Stoneyhill lay siege to the Longniddry goal, but could not breach the defence, and Longniddry held on as they set a new school record of three cup wins in one season.
