TRANENT Juniors have been handed a major boost ahead of the new season, with three new signings, including two former Scottish Junior Cup finalists.

The club has secured the services of Guy Kerr, who played for Musselburgh Athletic in the 2011 final, and fellow defender Eck Christie, who joins his hometown club from the Olive Bank side.

Manager Gary Small further bolstered his defence with the arrival of centre-back Jamie Todd from Preston Athletic, while the manager has also re-signed the club's Player of the Year.

Star striker Kenny McMillan, was an integral part of the squad that clinched the South Division title last season.

McMillan, who joined a year ago from Haddington Athletic, and had planned to hang up his boots after a season at his home town club.

However, the lure of playing in the Premier League, where he was twice a winner with Edinburgh United and Haddington in successive seasons, has convinced the striker to delay any plans of hanging up his boots.

Right-back Christie added: "After three good years at Musselburgh it's going to be good being back with old teammates and meeting new ones.

"My heart has always been at Tranent, seeing the club do so well last season makes me driven to continue the success going forward.

"It's good to be home and I can't wait to get the season started."

And 21-year-old Todd, Player of the Year at the Pennypit last term, is another to make the short trip to Forresters Park.

He said: "I've had two seasons playing in the Lowland League with Preston Athletic and I hope I can learn more and keep improving as a player with Tranent under Gary and his coaching staff."

Meanwhile, Kerr, who played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the SPL, is delighted to make the move to the South Division champions.

He said: "I like that there is a professional structure in place and and that goes along way in junior football as it can be hard when boys are working all day and then have to train.

"Tranent seem to have a great squad and I am looking forward to being part of that. I had a good season last year at Arniston and I'm hoping that my form will continue at my new club."

Tranent boss Gary Small was delighted with preparations for next season.

From his holiday in Dubai, he told Courier Sport: "It's all going pretty well and we've managed to keep a hold of most of the squad from last season.

"We've let one or two go, and I'll only need to bring in four or five bodies, and we're hoping to have another couple through by the end of the week."
