PRIMARY school children from the Tranent area enjoyed am morning of football as they took part in the Tesco Bank Football Challenge.

More than 70 youngsters from three primary schools – Ormiston, Pencaitland and Saltoun, took part in the event at Hibs' training base at East Mains, near Ormiston, on Tuesday.

Mary McCall, headteacher at Pencaitland Primary, was delighted with the day.

She said: “It has been brilliant to have the Scottish FA coaches in the school over the past six weeks and today has been a memorable end to a fantastic programme.

"The children have had so much fun learning new skills, being active and their confidence has greatly improved.”

Sean McAuley, SFA football development officer, added: "The children from Tranent Cluster have spent the last few weeks having fun and learning new skills as part of our six week coaching course.

"We’re proud to be helping them become healthier, happier and more confident whilst promoting the importance of an active lifestyle.

"The Tesco Bank Football Challenge is a well established part of our primary school programme, and continues to go from strength to strength in the East Lothian area.”

The youngsters took part in a series of games, with SFA qualified coaches on hand to lend their support.
