MUSSELBURGH Athletic remain without a manager, but are likely to appoint a new boss this month.

Stevie McLeish left the club last week after little over 18 months in charge to take the manager's job at Newtongrange Star.

That left Burgh without a manager for their final league game of the season, as chairman Charlie McGlynn took the team.

McGlynn, though, confirmed to Courier Sport he hopes to have McLeish's successor in place soon.

He said: "We're a bit closer than we were last week, but there's still nothing confirmed.

"It should still take a couple of weeks."

Former Burgh player Calvin Shand is among the favourites for the job.

He is currently assistant manager at Linlithgow Rose, who conclude their season against Kelty Hearts on Saturday.

Others believed to be in contention are ex-Dunbar United manager Davie Lees, former Haddington boss George Bowmaker and ex-Hearts and Motherwell star Kevin Twaddle.

The Burgh website appeared to confirm Shand's imminent appointment, listing him as 'first team coach', with ex-club captain Kevin McDonald as a coach.
