A morning of football was held for youngsters in the Dunbar area last week, as part of a nationwide challenge run by Tesco.

More than 150 pupils from three primary schools in the Dunbar cluster descended on Hallhill last Thursday morning as they took part in the Tesco Bank Football Challenge.

The programme aims to teach youngsters basic football skills and get them active, while they have the chance to take part in eight-a-side matches.

Sean McAuley, SFA football development officer, was delighted with the morning's games, which saw 158 pupils take part.

He said: “The children from Dunbar Cluster have spent the last few weeks having fun and learning new skills as part of our six week coaching course.

We’re proud to be helping them become healthier, happier and more confident whilst promoting the importance of an active lifestyle.

The Tesco Bank Football Challenge is a well established part of our primary school programme, and continues to go from strength to strength in the area.”

And the event was also praised by Gill Whitford, West Barns Primary headteacher.

She added; “It has been brilliant to have the Scottish FA coaches in the school over the past six weeks and today has been a memorable end to a fantastic programme.

"The children have had so much fun learning new skills, being active and their confidence has greatly improved.”
