TRANENT Bowling Club are keen to start a new youth section following the success of two county stars at the Commonwealth Games.

Alex ‘Tattie’ Marshall, a Tranent resident, claimed two medals at Gold Coast, with his gold in the men’s fours making him Scotland’s most decorated Commonwealth Games athlete of all time, while Derek Oliver took home two golds.

The Tranent club hope to capitalise on the increased coverage given to the sport.

Ross High School’s Active Schools co-ordinator Adam Martin, a Tranent Bowling Club member, is running the free sessions, which begin next Friday (May 4) and run throughout the summer at the clubhouse between the tennis courts and Polson Park, 3.30-4.30pm.

The club is home to a number of top players including previous Scottish champion John McCrorie, current ladies Scottish champion Dee Hoggan and bowling legend Graham Robertson.

Contact Adam on 07976 378469 or at amartin@elcschool.org.uk or pop into the club any week night from 6pm.
