EAST Lothian bowls legend Alex Marshall recorded a poignant win on the world stage.
Tranent star Marshall won the Australian Open men’s fours title along with Bowls Scotland team-mates Paul Foster, Ryan Burnett and Darren Burnett.
They produced a tremendous performance and beat Australian quartet of Laguzza, Groenewege, Wild and Baker to take the title.
Marshall’s achievement was made all the more remarkable given that he received the news that his mother had passed away while he was competing in Australia.
The East Lothian legend (pictured above, by Andrew Milligan/PA Wire)dedicated his win to her.
And messages of congratulations, and sympathy, have been posted to the 50-year-old on social media.
On Marshall’s Facebook page, Kenny Burton said: “My deepest sympathy and on behalf or all the members of Welsh Indoor Bowls”, while Ernest Clark added: “Congratulations on winning the fours. I am very sorry to here about your mum, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.”
And another of Marshall’s friends, Barry Torode, added: “Rest in peace to your mum Alex, what a tribute to her, very well played, kept me on my toes.”
