A “TINY” club is celebrating an impressive treble after a nerve-jangling end to the season.

Ross High Ladies Hockey Club won two league titles and also clinched a cup to wrap up a remarkable campaign.

Donna Hill, who coaches the club alongside Alison Gordon, was thrilled with the success.

She said: “We are a tiny club.

“Myself and Alison are the two coaches and we run it ourselves with the girls.

“There are a couple of ladies in their 30s and the rest are under-30.

“We have got about 35 members from schoolgirls – 14 is when you start to play – up until you are too old to play.

“I know a lot of girls play rugby or football now but for a small club this is a really good success.

“The East District Divisions are split into five and we are playing against the Borders, they have got five or six teams, and Watsonians clubs, who have got eight teams.

“Then there are the university teams and they have got about 11 teams.

“You have got Cala and Grange – big Edinburgh clubs too.”

The first team defeated Boroughmuir 6-3 on the final day of the season to be crowned East District First Division champions.

Meanwhile, their second team were 4-2 winners against Watsonians Colts to win the East District Fourth Division to make it back-to-back promotions after clinching the Fifth Division last term.

Rounding off a memorable season, they were also celebrating finishing top of the table in the Katherine Lambert Indoor Cup.

Donna added: “It is such an achievement for the girls.

“We are totally super proud of every single one of them.

“They are a lovely bunch of kids and very dedicated to what they do and to their team.”
