EAST Lothian’s bowlers were celebrating double success at the weekend after clinching triples and fours national titles.

The semi-finals of both competitions were played at Perth Indoor Bowling Club over the weekend.

Derek Oliver, Lewis Betts and Mark Johnstone were hoping to bring home the triples crown.

Standing in their way on Friday were the Turriff trio of Graham Alexander, George Barclay and Connor Milne.

East Lothian emerged victorious 23-11, to set up a final with Blantyre, who had edged past Midlothian in the other semi-final.

It would be Oliver, Betts and Johnstone that were celebrating in the final as they defeated John Strachan, Brian Irvine and Iain McLean 16-8.

There would be further success for Oliver, who was also part of the East Lothian fours.

He linked up with Jamie Higgins, Scott Kennedy and Billy Mellors for the semi-final clash with East Kilbride.

A 22-14 win put them through to the final to face West Lothian, who ended the challenge of Garioch in the other last four contest.

Higgins, Kennedy, Mellors and Oliver were then celebrating an 18-10 win over Bryan Cooper, Jamie Edwards, James Speirs and Neil Speirs to win the title.

Both the winning triples and fours will go on to represent Scotland at the British Isles Championships.
