TOP golf stars are in East Lothian as the Scottish Senior Open gets under way at Craigielaw Golf Club today (Friday).

Fourteen former Ryder Cup players are in the field for the £250,000 tournament, which returns to East Lothian for the fourth consecutive year.

Former European Tour Order of Merit winner Ronan Rafferty, of The Renaissance Club at Archerfield, will also compete.

And 2016 champion Paul Eales will hope to regain the trophy after winning at Archerfield Links two years ago, but last year’s champion Paul Broadhurst is not taking part.

The first 36 holes will be contested in the Alliance Pro-Am format (amateur players paired with a professional).

The final round, which takes place on Sunday, is for professionals only, with the winner taking home a cheque for £37,500.
