EAST Lothian superstar Josh Taylor has been nominated for two awards by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC).

Taylor, from Prestonpans, is in the running for the Fighter of the Year prize, as well as the accolade for Contest of the Year for his points victory over former world champion Viktor Postol.

In the former category, WBC Silver super lightweight champion Taylor is up against Ryan Burnett, George Groves, Lewis Ritson, Billy Joe Saunders, Josh Warrington and world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Meanwhile, for the Contest of the Year award, the former Preston Lodge High School pupil faces competition from a former stable-mate.

Carl Frampton’s bout with Nonito Donaire is one of four other bouts in the running – the others are: Jason Welborn vs Tommy Langford, Warrington vs Lee Selby, and Dereck Chisora against Carlos Takam.

And Taylor’s last opponent, Ukrainian ‘Iceman’ Postol is among four nominees for Overseas Boxer of the Year – despite losing his only bout of the year to the ‘Tartan Tornado’.

Taylor, 27, is preparing to fight American Ryan Martin in the quarter-finals of the World Boxing Super Series for the super lightweight category – details of that fight are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

But he will discover if he is an award-winner at the BBBofC dinner in London on Friday, September 28.
