FIVE-TIME Major winner Phil Mickelson will compete in the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open at Gullane Golf Club next month.
The American star, who sealed the most recent of his 10 European Tour wins at the WGC-Mexico Championship in March, joins a stellar field at Gullane from July 12-15, as he aims to add to his Scottish Open win of 2013 at Castle Stuart.
A week later, he won The Open at Muirfield, to the east of Gullane.
Mickelson was last week caught up in controversy when he chased after and hit an already-moving put during the US Open.
The 48-year-old was docked two shots and later apologised.
On his return to Gullane, he said: “It’s a tournament that I’ve enjoyed playing in for a number of years, and to take what I learned that week at Castle Stuart and use it to help get my hands on the Claret Jug after one of the best rounds of my career, was really a fantastic experience.
"I can’t wait to get back to Gullane and play in front of the Scottish crowds again. I enjoyed the experience back in 2015 and being so close to Muirfield makes it feel a bit like a homecoming.”
