FORMER Open champion Henrik Stenson will return to East Lothian for the first time in five years to compete in the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open in July.

The Swede will return to East Lothian for the first time since his second-place finish at the Open Championship at Muirfield in 2013.

Today (Tuesday), he was confirmed as part of the line-up for the Scottish Open as it returns to Gullane Golf Club for the second time in four years between July 12-15.

And this summer's showpiece event will not be the first time that the 42-year-old has played at the course.

He said: "It’s been a long time for me since I played at Gullane.

"I played the British Amateur back in the day, probably in 1998, at Muirfield and Gullane.

"I didn’t play when Rickie [Fowler] won in 2015 so it’s kind of fresh to me in a way.

"It’s a good track and I’m looking forward to coming back."
