A LONGNIDDRY teenager has become the first-ever winner of a badminton medal for Queen Margaret University.
Basia Grodynska, a first-year human biology student at the Musselburgh university, won gold in the girls’ singles at the Scottish Student Badminton Championships in Aberdeen.
The former North Berwick High School pupil overcame the winner of the last two years Emma Cook (21-8, 21-12) in the semi-finals, then beat former Commonwealth Games ace Rebecca Findlay 21-14, 21-17 in the final.
The 18-year-old told Courier Sport: “I am dead chuffed.
“It is my first major singles championship at a senior level so it is one to remember.”
Basia had only found out about the championships through social media.
