RUGBY aces Chris Dean and Lewis Carmichael helped Edinburgh Rugby to a bonus point win over defending champions Scarlets on Saturday.

The Capital club ran in eight tries, with wing Duhan Van Der Merwe helping himself to a brace, in the 52-14 win at BT Murrayfield.

It means they are now in pole position to take third place in Conference B in the Guinness Pro14 and secure a place in the end-of-season play-offs.

Dean started at inside centre and was joined off the bench by fellow county ace Carmichael, both products of North Berwick RFC, in the second half.

Edinburgh's other points came through tries by Scotland caps Blair Kinghorn,  Magnus Bradbury, Mark Bennett and Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, who also kicked five penalties for a personal 15-point haul.

Young back-row Luke Crosbie and replacement scrum-half Nathan Fowles also crossed  against an under-strength Scarlets, who rested much of their first-choice XV ahead of a European Champions Cup semi-final this weekend.

Edinburgh return to action next Saturday (April 28) for the final match of the regular season as they host Glasgow Warriors at BT Murrayfield.
