A TEAM of basketball starlets from North Berwick High School claimed victory in the Scottish Schools Cup last week.

The school’s S1 team had cruised to the final, remaining unbeaten throughout the early stages of the competition.

And the North Berwick starlets met Portobello High School in the final at Oriam at Heriot-Watt University.

Having beaten the Capital side 40-10 earlier in the competition, the North Berwick girls were hot favourites to take the title.

They did not disappoint, running out 35-18 winners to claim the crown.

Alan Macdonald, prncipal teacher for health and wellbeing at North Berwick High School, congratulated the youngsters and their coaches on their victory.

He said: “I am delighted with the result but particularly pleased with the way the girls improved throughout the competition.

“Norma Conroy and Mark Patterson have coached this group of players for over two years now and their hard work, time and coaching of core values has allowed this team to gel and perform with confidence.

“Everyone involved was an outstanding North Berwick High School ambassador and our school motto of ‘aim high’ was certainly embraced by the girls.”
