MIGUEL Vazquez had contested more than 300 rounds and had never been stopped in 44 contests before he was blown away by a Tartan Tornado.

Josh Taylor overcame the Mexican with a stunning stoppage in the ninth round at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh this evening (Saturday).

The Prestonpans boxer had impressed in his 10 previous fights but was taking a significant step up in class against the former IBF World Lightweight champion.

However, his body shot with 47 seconds remaining of the ninth round ensured the unbeaten run continued.

Just minutes after the bout, Taylor dedicated the fight to five-year-old Alex Logan.

His fellow Prestonpans native has been diagnosed with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).

Taylor had never been beyond eight rounds in his professional career but the fight was not to last much longer.

Both men had given it their all, with Taylor shading the contest, despite suffering a cut above his left eye.

The end came in round nine when a stunning body shot sunk Vazquez to his knees.

The referee stepped in to start the count but it never looked likely that the 30-year-old was going to get back to his feet.

It was a clinical shot which ensured Taylor's impressive reputation continues to grow.
