BOXING star Josh Taylor was among the winners at the Team Scotland Scottish Sports Awards last night (Thursday).

Taylor, from Prestonpans, won Moment of the Year for his WBC Silver super lightweight title win and Commonwealth super lightweight title defence in Glasgow in July.

The 26-year-old stopped Englishman Ohara Davies in the seventh round at the Braehead Arena to add the WBC belt to his Commonwealth title.

The boxing ace, nicknamed the Tartan Tornado, is preparing to defend the WBC title for the first time against Miguel Vazquez in November.

Taylor beat sprinter Laura Muir, the Scotland rugby team, swimmers Stephen Milne & Duncan Scott and footballer Leigh Griffiths, among others, to the award.

Taylor and girlfriend Danielle Murphy attended the awards, and Murphy posted the below picture on her Twitter page.

Dunbar sprinter Maria Lyle was nominated for Young Athlete of the Year, but was beaten to the trophy, while the East Lothian Rwanda Partnership also missed out on an award.

Paul Bush, chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland, was delighted to celebrate "a truly outstanding year for Scottish sport."
