EAST Lothian's rugby sides enjoyed a successful weekend to kick off the new season.

Musselburgh, Preston Lodge and Haddington were all victorious in the BT National League Cup in home ties on Saturday afternoon.

Burgh saw off Glasgow Accies 39-27 at Stoneyhill, while PL edged Lasswade 49-34 at the Pennypit.

And Haddington caused an upset when they beat West of Scotland, from the division above, 30-18 at Neilson Park.

All three sides begin their National League campaigns on Saturday.

Meanwhile, East Division 1 saw both Dunbar and North Berwick in action.

Dunbar's defeat to Corstorphine Cougars in the Capital was the only blemish on the weekend's scorecard, as Mark Coull's men were beaten 34-10.

But North Berwick made it four wins from five as they beat Linlithgow 19-14 in West Lothian.

Ross High had a free weekend in East Division 2, but kick off their campaign at home to Dalkeith on Saturday.
