MUSSELBURGH-BORN Scotland rugby star Huw Jones is nearing a return to action.
Jones, who plays for South African side DHL Stormers, has been on the sidelines since tearing his hamstring during Scotland’s 29-0 win over Italy on the final day of the Six Nations in March.
The 23-year-old, who grew up on Pinkie Road in the Honest Toun before moving south of the Border, was initially ruled out for four months.
That would have seen him play his last match in Super Rugby, with the eight-times capped centre set for a move to Glasgow Warriors.
However, he is back ahead of schedule, and could face The Bulls in the Stormers’ final Super Rugby match.
The centre has agreed a move to Glasgow Warriors next season, but previously told Courier Sport he was unsure whether he would remain with the Western Province for the Currie Cup – the premier club competition in South Africa – or return to his homeland.
A DHL Stormers statement last week confirmed the centre’s imminent return to action.
It read: “Huw Jones’ hamstring is recovering well and he should be available to play in five weeks’ time.”
The centre will hope to recover his fitness and form ahead of Scotland’s autumn tests against Samoa, world champions New Zealand and Australia.
