KENNY Fisher was the hero as Tranent Juniors ended a near-40-year run without a cup with a 1-0 victory over Broxburn Athletic in the Fife and Lothians Cup final tonight (Wednesday).

Tranent were underdogs in the match at Newtongrange given they play a league below Superleague club Broxburn, but they had already knocked the West Lothian men out of the East of Scotland Cup earlier in the season.

Tonight's game had looked destined for penalties before Fisher blasted home from outside the box with just 60 seconds left to win the cup.

The Belters could yet do an unlikely double as they also play in the East of Scotland Cup final on Saturday.

Their opponents there are another Superleague outfit, Bonnyrigg Rose, who beat Tranent's East Lothian rivals Musselburgh Athletic 3-1 in their semi-final tonight.
