HADDINGTON middleweight Iain Trotter was “over the moon” after he secured a second professional win inside a fortnight.

Trotter demolished Sandor Jozsa inside the opening round of their contest at the Meadowbank Arena on Friday evening.

The 23-year-old told Courier Sport he was delighted with the win.

“I am absolutely over the moon,” he said.

“He was a southpaw and I didn’t know that until very late on – I had prepared for something different but I had to adapt quite quickly.

“That was quite a challenge but it was good for me.”

The more experienced Jozsa had only been stopped once previously, but Trotter was completely dominant.

He knocked the Hungarian down early on, with the referee delivering an eight count, before a second right hand ended the contest after two minutes and 53 seconds.

Trotter was delighted with the manner of his win. “He had only been stopped once before and that was by a body shot, so it is a big statement for me to get him out by chinning him,” he said.

Trotter also revealed that he received advice from former world champion Barry McGuigan, the founder of Cyclone Promotions.

“Barry was telling me what I need to work on and he had a few words of advice for me,” he said.

“I spoke to [former world champions] Carl Frampton and David Haye as well and that was really good.”

Trotter was cheered on by a huge home support, including dad Tom – an East Lothian councillor –with a bus leaving from Haddington’s Railway Hotel and his fans donning ‘Team Trotter’ t-shirts for the night.

He added: “It is so overwhelming – I can’t thank people enough for spending their hard-earned money to come and support me.

“I could hear it from the back and I knew once I’d got in the ring, he was going to need a gun to beat me.”

After his own win, the middleweight joined his friends in the stands to cheer on fellow East Lothian star Josh Taylor in the main event.

“I was up there with my pals singing my heart out,” he said. “I really admire Josh – I like his style and I want to be at his level one day.”

The former Knox Academy pupil was already looking forward to a quick return to the ring, and hopes to have a third professional bout in the summer.

Trotter said: “I’m hoping to do something in June but we’ll need to wait and see.

“I want good fights rather than just fighting donkeys.

“With people like Josh [Taylor] about, I want to be getting these good fights rather than just making up numbers.”
