LAW Primary School were celebrating as their badminton team was crowned Scottish Schools champions last week.

The school qualified for the event as Mid and East Lothian quaich winners, and put in some superb performances en route to the title.

They started with a 3-2 win over Ayrshire school Glebe Primary, before a 5-0 win over Mill O’Forest Primary from Aberdeenshire.

Our Lady’s of the Missions Primary (East Renfrewshire), last year’s runners-up Brunstfield Primary (Edinburgh) and defending champions West End Primary (Moray) were all then beaten by the same 3-2 margin.

Their run of wins continued with victories over St Kenneths Primary of South Lanarkshire, Newton Primary (Stirling) and Glasgow’s Merrylee Primary.

It is the first time the Scottish Schools Gibb Memorial Primary Quaich has been won by a county school since Longniddry Primary in 2011.

Christine Black, East Lothian badminton development officer, passed on her congratulations to the team, and teacher Mrs Pathirana, on such a great result.

She added: “A big thank you to all the parents who travelled and supported them on the day.”

The winning team was: Ben Riddle, Ellie Bent, Harry Bent, Isabella Davis, Finlay Jack, Alex Grant, Johnny Angel, Isla Johnston and Robert Lambert.
