A DUNBAR Grammar School pupil has been selected to represent Scotland at a prestigious surfing competition.
Elliot Young, an S1 pupil, will join Jamie Marshall, Scotland coordinator for The Wave Project, in competing for Scotland at the Nordic Surf Games.
The event is Scandinavia’s largest and most prestigious surf competition. Nations will battle it out near Stavanger.
William Watson, president of the Scottish Surfing Federation, said: “I am very proud of the Scottish surfing team, who will be competing alongside fellow Nordic surfing nations in one of the ‘coolest’ surfing events in the world.”
This is Jamie’s first time surfing for Scotland and he was looking forward to the challenge. He is also Elliot’s surf coach, and said: “It is an absolute privilege to represent Scotland in Norway.
“With a coastline very similar to our own it’s a great opportunity for the Scotland team to have a real impact on the competition.”
Elliot’s selection, meanwhile, follows an impressive showing at the Junior World Championships in the Azores last September.
He said: “I am really excited to surf for my country, especially now that surfing is an Olympic sport.”
