UNDEFEATED boxing star Josh Taylor will attempt to extend the impressive start to his professional career when he steps in the ring next month.

The 26-year-old will square off against South Africa’s Warren Joubert at Meadowbank Arena on March 24.

Taylor, who has stopped seven of his eight opponents, will defend the Commonwealth Super Lightweight title in the fight.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist, from Prestonpans, fought Alfonso Olvera last month in Las Vegas and will be fighting at Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Arena for the third time.

He previously stopped Adam Mate in 85 seconds in October 2015 before winning the Commonwealth Super Lightweight title with a fifth round stoppage of Dave Ryan in October last year.

His opponent, from Johannesburg, comes into the fight with 26 wins (11 KOs), from a 35-fight career.

Nicknamed ‘The Warrior’, it will be his first bout outside of South Africa, with his last fight coming with a split decision victory over Tshifhiwa Timer Munyai in September last year.

Taylor said: "I'm buzzing for this fight.

"I can't wait to defend the title in Edinburgh in front of my home fans.

"It was a terrific atmosphere last time at the Meadowbank Arena in October and I'm expecting another big night on March 24.

"Warren Joubert is a tough man and the South African champion so I know he means business.

"He has an attacking style and from what I have seen of him, he always comes to fight, so it should make for a cracking contest."

Taylor will not be the only East Lothian fighter stepping into the ring though.

Haddington's Iain Trotter will be boxing in a four-round middleweight contest against a currently unnamed opponent.
