THERE was disappointment for four East Lothian rugby stars on Friday evening, as both Scotland Women and the U20 side fell to agonising defeats.

Callum Hunter-Hill captained the U20 side, and was joined by Cameron Hutchison, from North Berwick, and ex-Loretto School pupil Craig Pringle in the squad.

Hutchison's early try put Scotland ahead, but the Irish mounted a comeback that culminated with a try three minutes from time winning them the game 19-20.

Meanwhile, North Berwick's Megan Gaffney won her 21st cap, but was denied a rare win as an 81st minute try saw Ireland Women win 15-22.

The Scots scored two tries in a match for the first time since 2012, and nearly secured a draw, before Jenny Murphy's late try.

There was better news, though, for Musselburgh-born centre Huw Jones, who played an hour as Scotland beat Ireland in their Six Nations opener.

Jones, who lived in the Honest Toun as a youngster, won his fourth cap as a pair of late penalties from captain Greig Laidlaw, after two tries by Stuart Hogg and one from Alex Dunbar, won a thrilling game 27-22.

All the county aces are likely to be involved once more this weekend, as their respective sides travel to France.
