IT was a mixed weekend for East Lothian's junior football and rugby sides, with four wins among the seven fixtures played.

Dunbar United lead the way, with an 8-1 thrashing of West Calder United in their South Division meeting at New Countess Park.

Prolific striker Sam Young led the way with a hat-trick, while there were late goals from Steven Tait, Arno Subasic and Darren Handling to seal a big win.

Tranent Juniors settled for a point at home to Bathgate Thistle in the East Premier League, while there was disappointment for Haddington Athletic, who lost 3-1 at home to Downfield.

Musselburgh Athletic's Scottish Junior Cup tie with Kirkintilloch Rob Roy was postponed due to a frozen pitch at Guy's Meadow.

Meanwhile, there was a reduced card of rugby action, but Preston Lodge, Dunbar and North Berwick were all victorious on Saturday.

Andrew Clark's PL came out on top at Hillhead Jordanhill 12-38 to move up to fourth place in National League Division 2.

In East League Division 1, Dunbar beat second-from-bottom Penicuik 23-18 at Hallhill, while North Berwick returned from Scremearston 18-28 winners over Berwick.

There was disappointment for bottom side Ross High, who lost 12-22 to Duns in Tranent.

The league now takes a break for the start of the RBS Six Nations.
