Gullane Tennis Club welcomed in the New Year with their Frost Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Mixed doubles pairings competed in the traditional club kick-start to the year.

Following cancellation of 2016's Frost Tournament, ironically due to frost, this year’s tournament was held in almost balmy temperatures of nine degrees.

The winners on the day were Annabel Stirling and Bryan Leslie, who defeated Sandie Pardoe and Paul Winkle 11-9 in the super-tie-break final.

Bryan Leslie, club president, said: “Thanks to everyone who took part in this year’s Frost Tournament, it was great to see so many people playing and watching.

"Congratulations to Annabel for adding another trophy to those won in our club championships last year.

"Special mention also goes to junior club champion Patrick Bayley, who, with his adult partner Ann Marr, won all three group matches before being defeated narrowly in the semi-finals.

"It's fair to say that given his standard of play, all adults will be pleased to be paired with Patrick at this year’s Gullane Tennis Club 'generation' tournament in August, where juniors and adults are paired together.

"Best of luck to all members in all of this year's club tournaments.”
