Stewart's Melville 26 21 Musselburgh

MUSSELBURGH's winless run extended to six matches as they fell to fellow strugglers Stewart's Melville on Saturday.

The game passed a mid-morning pitch inspection, but Burgh were caught cold when Morrison scored the game's opening try for the hosts just five minutes in.

Hanning converted, and Danny Owenson missed a penalty before the Capital side scored a second try in the opening quarter – Murchie this time the man to touch down. Hanning converted (14-0).

Burgh then seemed to settle, with Graham, McNairn, Hutson and Hibberd all making yards, while Sandy Watt had to be alert to prevent a third Stew Mel try after a clever kick over the Burgh defence.

His intervention only delayed the hosts' third score, though, as Goldring spun off the back of a ruck and crashed over.

The impressive Hanning again converted, meaning Burgh turned round at the break 21-0 adrift.

A much-improved second half performance began when Will Fleming powered his way to the line for Burgh's first try 10 minutes into the second half, which Owenson converted.

Just 10 minutes later, Michael Fleming joined his brother on the score sheet as he took advantage of space out wide to dive over.

Owenson again converted, and Burgh were within seven points of the home side.

Grant Talac's Burgh side were then handed a penalty after Stew Mel infringed at the ruck, but Owenson's effort again sailed wide.

The Capital side secured victory with five minutes to go when, from a line out in the Burgh half, Grant broke clear and went over.

Burgh pushed until the end, and got their reward with the game's final play, as lock Brad Graham touched down from a powerful scrum.

Danny Owenson's conversion secured a losing bonus point for the county club.

They return to Stoneyhill on Saturday, where basement club Howe of Fife are the visitors.
