Greenock Wanderers 12 57 Haddington

HADDINGTON scored nine tries as they thrashed Greenock Wanderers on Saturday, to secure a second consecutive league win.

Reds head coach Rhodri Thomas made three changes to the side that ended 2016 with a win at Highland, recalling Alex Cunningham, Kyle Adams and Michael Dunlop to the starting side.

A back-row reshuffle also saw veteran captain Colin Stuart restored to number eight, while Jonny Riddell was available following a nasty head injury on the trip to Inverness.

Haddington made a flying start, as a good move by the backs put Kyle Hamilton over in the corner for the game's first try just seven minutes in.

Gareth Pritchard converted, and the Reds crossed for a second time in the opening quarter of an hour as Jack Hamilton scored the first of his brace.

The scrum-half was in support as James Ferguson broke clear, and the vice-captain gave ex-Boroughmuir man Hamilton an easy run-in.

A third try followed on 20 minutes, as Alex Cunningham crossed for his first try for the club's 1st XV after a powerful rolling maul.

Pritchard converted, and the stand-off then scored the fourth try, sealing a bonus point in the process, with only 25 minutes on the clock.

A fifth try, from lock Harry Hamilton on the stroke of half-time, saw the Reds hold a commanding advantage at the break.

There was no let up in the second 40 minutes, as Hamilton completed his brace in the first minute of the second half after he took advantage of a gap on the blindside to scamper clear.

Liam Clutton also bagged himself a rare try, as he profited from good work by Mark Renton to touch down.

Skipper Stuart added his name to the lengthy list of scorers, as did Alex Peace, who was put away by Kyle Adams to score his first try for the club.

Thomas' side are on the road again on Saturday, as they travel to 10th-placed Perthshire.
