PRESTONPANS boxing star Josh Taylor described the prospect of boxing in Las Vegas as a "dream come true."

Taylor will return to the ring for the first time since winning the Commonwealth super lightweight title in front of a home crowd in October, in the world-famous MGM Grand in Las Vegas on January 28.

The 25-year-old has been in impressive form since turning professional in summer 2015, with an unbeaten 7-0 record, while six of those wins have come inside two rounds.

A fifth-round stoppage of Derby veteran Ryan in front of a packed Meadowbank Arena gave Taylor his first professional belt.

Taylor will take on an as-yet unnamed opponent at the MGM Grand – the scene of Floyd Mayweather's bout with Manny Pacquiao and Mike Tyson's infamous fights with Evander Holyfield.

The Prestonpans ace, nicknamed the Tartan Tornado, cannot wait to get back in the ring, on the undercard of stablemate Carl Frampton's bout with Leo Santa Cruz for the WBA Super featherweight title.

Before he departed for Las Vegas last week, the former Commonwealth Games gold medallist said: "I'm looking to start 2017 where I left off in 2016 and keep to my winning ways and put on a good strong performance.

"I can't wait to get over there, get stuck into training and see what Vegas is about."

Taylor travelled stateside last week, and will be put through his paces by trainer Shane McGuigan, son of former world champion Barry, before the fight.

As part of his preparations, the county star spent time training with former IBF world champion 'Showman' Shawn Porter, which Taylor described as "great preparation for fight night."

The fight will be the third time Taylor has boxed in USA, after making his professional bow against Archie Weah in Texas little over 18 months ago, and defeating Evincii Dixon at the Barclays Center, in New York, last July.

Taylor also told Courier Sport he will defend his Commonwealth super lightweight title for the first time on home soil, again likely to be at the Meadowbank Arena, in March.
