A TEAM of county rugby starlets were celebrating success at the Scottish Rugby Girls’ Cup Finals last week.

The East Lothian Schools team triumphed against Balfron High School to clinch the trophy at Glasgow Warriors’ Scotstoun Stadium.

The county youngsters took the lead with the game’s first try just three minutes in, before Balfron hit back with a try of their own.

A dominant first-half performance saw the county side lead 29-5 at the interval.

The Stirling school scored their second try early in the half, but East Lothian were always in control as they went over for another converted try to grow the lead to 36-10.

A third Balfron try, the conversion and a subsequent penalty cut the gap to 16 points, but another East Lothian try sealed victory.

An outstanding performance saw county stand-off Emma Turner named player of the match as they collected the trophy from Scotland Women internationalists Lindsey Smith and Heather Lockhart.
