HADDINGTON Athletic co-manager Kevin Twaddle has resigned, just five months after joining the club.

Twaddle told committee members of his decision following the club's 2-1 home league defeat to Arniston Rangers on Saturday.

The 45-year-old was keen to stress his decision was "not because of the results."

He told Courier Sport: "It's not been a decision I've taken lightly.

"I've not been happy with the way things are for the past three or four weeks.

"It's nothing to do with the committee – they are a great bunch and so are the players. but there were things that needed to change, but there was no sign of them changing.

"I am not going to spend time away from my beautiful family somewhere I'm not happy."

Twaddle took over with Brian Johnstone, who moved from Ormiston, in the summer, as they replaced Johnny Harvey in the Millfield dugout.

The former Motherwell and St Johnstone midfielder was pleased with the progress they made during their brief spell as co-managers.

He added: "When we came in, we only had eight players signed up and obviously we've brought a few boys in.

"We've reached the last 32 of the Scottish Junior Cup and yes, league results could probably be better, but I'd like to think people can see what a difference we have made."

Twaddle thanked the club for the opportunity, and said he was looking forward to a quiet festive period.

"My wife has been saying I'll be miserable not being at the football but I'm just looking forward to a quiet Christmas.

"I'll be itching to get back into it after the New Year."

He was also keen to stress his departure was nothing to do with the vacant manager's role at Tranent Juniors.

He said: "I would not have resigned from Haddington to join Tranent, not for any reason.

"I know Brian [Johnstone] gets on well with Matthew [Wright, involved at Tranent Juniors] but it is nothing to do with that."

Tom Thornton, Haddington Athletic secretary, thanked Twaddle for his short time with the club.

He said: "Sorry to be announcing the resignation of @twads7 from his post as co-manager of @HaddAth after just 5 months with the Hi Hi."
