BOXING star Josh Taylor will attempt to win his first professional title, in just his seventh fight, in Edinburgh tomorrow (Friday).

The Prestonpans ace, nicknamed the Tartan Tornado, will face Dave Ryan for the vacant Commonwealth light welterweight title at Meadowbank Arena.

He has been in camp with trainer Shane McGuigan since the fight was announced in August, and 25-year-old Taylor is in confident mood.

He told Courier Sport: "I'm fit and ready and I just can't wait to get in the ring and fight now.

"The training camp has been really hard, but I've probably felt ready for the last couple of weeks.

"I just can't wait now."

Taylor has swept past all before him since turning professional last summer, stopping all six of his opponents to date inside the first two rounds.

Englishman Ryan, though, is a 26-fight veteran, but Taylor is "100 per cent" confident of lifting the belt.

He also told Courier Sport he is not concerned about the prospect of the fight going all 12 rounds.

Taylor, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist two years ago, added: "It's not something I've done in a fight but I've done it plenty of times in sparring with much bigger guys.

"I've absolutely no doubts over my fitness and I just can't wait to get in there, and to lift the belt."

Taylor also believes the Derby fighter is relying too heavily on his extra experience.

He said: "I think he's expecting to bully me – he thinks he's bigger and stronger than me. He's not.

"I won't be bullied by him – I'm well prepared."

A capacity crowd is expected at Meadowbank Arena tomorrow evening, with a large contingent of Taylor's family and friends making the short journey from the county.

He has fought at the venue before, as he defeated Adam Mate a year ago in the smaller arena, with 1,500 packed in to watch the 90-second demolition.

A crowd of 2,000 – a full house – is expected at tomorrow night's fight, and the 'Tartan Tornado' is looking forward to having a big home support.

"My mum and Danielle [Taylor's girlfriend] have been dealing with the tickets at home while I'm down here [in London] but they're selling really fast.

"There's not many left now, and it's going to be great to have my family and friends there.

"A few of them won't have seen me fight before, so it's brilliant they'll get the chance."
