A MUSSELBURGH youngster was celebrating success at the Double Mini Trampoline British Championships at the weekend.

Musselburgh teenager Fraser McLeod claimed gold at the prestigious event in Liverpool, after some stellar performances.

McLeod outshone a hugely competitive field at the Echo Arena to claim gold in the DMT men 13-14-year-old category.

His mum Julie made the trip to Liverpool along with her husband, and the pair were delighted to see Fraser come out of the competition with the gold medal.

Julie told Courier Sport: "My husband and I are are extremely proud of him. He is a dedicated young lad and has accomplished a lot in the sport, for the club and himself.

"On the back of his gold medal win he has been chosen to be part of the GB DMT squad who will compete later on in the year in Belgium."

Meanwhile, there was further success for county-based club City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club.

Caitlin O'Brien, representing the CETC club, based at Meadowmill, finished second in the senior women's DMT competition to win a silver medal.

She finished with a score of 129.00, while gold medallist Sapphire Dallard ended on 133.600 to take the title.

Another CETC gymnast, Ciara Donlevy, a former winner of the DMT women 17-18-year-old section, was in fifth place.

McLeod and O'Brien will both represent Great Britain at the Antwerp Cup in September.

Meanwhile George Watsons pupil Caitlin was recently awarded the school's prize for sporting excellence.

She was given the award, the highest handed out by the Edinburgh school, at their annual prizegiving at the end of last month.

Her name will now be engraved on the Sports Achievers board at the school.

CETC also enjoyed success at the British National Development Plan (NDP) finals in Telford last week.

Madeline Smith, from Prestonpans was at her best as she claimed the gold medal at the event, in Telford.
