EAST Lothian's Paralympic hopefuls had a chance to let their hair down at the team launch in London at the weekend.

Three of the county's four Team GB Paralympic hopefuls attended the event, held in Westminster, on Saturday evening.

Sprint ace Maria Lyle, from Dunbar, was joined by Wallyford-born powerlifter Micky Yule and Preston Athletic footballer David Porcher at the event.

They took time out their pre-Games training schedules to attend the evening, which saw athletes vote for their flag bearer, while they enjoyed dinner and a set from comedian Adam Hills.

Dunbar Grammar School pupil Lyle said she had a "great evening", while adding: "can't wait for the rest of the squad to join us."

The double European champion and World silver medalist, who has cerebral palsy, has also recently returned from a week's warm weather training, as her preparations for Brazil intensify.

The Dunbar Grammar School pupil spent time in Tenerife as she attempts to acclimatise to the weather she'll experience during the Paralympics in Rio.

Footballer Porcher is set to represent the cerebral palsy team, but will miss the start of Preston Athletic's Lowland League campaign.

He told Courier Sport: "Preston have been absolutely brilliant with me I can't them and the manager enough.

"They are even planning a race night for me."

He added that, after a training camp last week, he felt excited ahead of the Rio Games.

"We had a camp last weekend all the boys are looking sharp and we're ready to go

Para-powerlifter Yule, a former staff sergeant who lost both legs while in Afghanistan six years ago, also attended.

The 36-year old, among the favourites to medal in his competition, is also part of host broadcaster Channel 4's advert for the Games.

He is seen, in his Team GB vest, lifting without his prosthetic limbs, as he does in competition.

Stephen Clegg, the Musselburgh swimmer who captains East Lothian Swim Team, was not at the London team launch, though, as he is preparing for the Games with a training camp in Tenerife.

The Paralympic Games follows the Olympic Games in Rio, and will run between September 7-18.
