COUNTY boxing ace Josh Taylor jetted to New York last week, ahead of his next fight at the end of the month.

Taylor, from Prestonpans, is preparing for his sixth professional fight on the undercard of stable-mate Carl Frampton's WBA Super World featherweight title fight with Leo Santa Cruz on July 30.

The county star, dubbed the Tartan Tornado, will take on an as-yet unnamed opponent in the Barclays Center, but made the more-than 3,000-mile trip out to New York last week.

Ahead of his departure, he said: "For the next four weeks I'll be spending my time in New York City sparring and training for my sixth professional fight, which is also the biggest stage of my career to date.

"Boxing in one the most prestigious boxing venues and on another world title undercard – I can't put it into words how excited for this.

"I can't wait to get over there and get in amongst it."

Taylor, a former Olympian and a Commonwealth Games gold medallist in Glasgow two years ago, has been in devastating form since turning professional last summer.

He has stopped each of his opponents inside the opening two rounds in his five previous fights, and will hope to do the same in front of a packed out Barclays Center.

Taylor thanked everyone at home for their support, before he jetted out to America last Wednesday.

He added: "I'd just like to thank everyone for continuing to support me in my career and journey to the top. It's truly appreciated."
