EAST Lothian Yacht Club held its annual open regatta at North Berwick at the beginning of the month.

There was a bumper turnout for the event, with 83 visiting dinghies from all over the country, added to by 19 from the home club.

Racing courses were split into two courses, to the east and the west of Craigleith, with the faster asymmetric dinghies racing on the east course. Three races were held on Saturday and a further two on Sunday.

And the home club enjoyed three victories as part of the regatta.

Lyndsay Doig and Laura Sandison won the general handicap, sailing a 2000, while the RS Aero winner was Iain McGonigal.

Angus Boyd completed the home triumphs, taking home the prize for Laser Radial.

Members of the home club were delighted to see such an impressive number of boats taking part.

A spokesperson told Courier Sport: "It was a magnificent sight to see so many dinghies sailing out from North Berwick’s West Bay each day, and returning 3 hours later."

"There were a number of capsizes but with plenty safety boats in attendance there were no problems."

At the prizegiving, Robbie Lawson, East Lothian Yacht Club commodore, thanked the competitors for the way they had conducted themselves, and thanked the army of volunteers from the club, who had made the event such a success.
